Russel H. Dinh, M.D., is an ophthalmologist, retina specialist, and vitreoretinal surgeon at The Retina Group of Washington. A Virginia native, Dr. Dinh earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Chemistry and Economics from the University of Virginia, followed by a Master of Science in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University. He went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
Dr. Dinh completed his ophthalmology residency at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital/Washington Hospital Center, serving as Chief Resident. He then pursued fellowship training in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the prestigious Vanderbilt Eye Institute in Nashville, Tennessee, where he also served as a Clinical Instructor in Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.
He has received numerous honors and awards, including Fellow of the Year at Vanderbilt Eye Institute, the Joseph Desoff, M.D. Ophthalmology Education Award, the Program Director’s Award, and multiple recognitions for leadership and academic excellence. Dr. Dinh has presented research and clinical work at national and international meetings, including the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS), the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), and the International Uveitis Study Group (IUSG).
Dr. Dinh has authored peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters on topics such as macular hole surgery, infectious and inflammatory retinal diseases, retinal vascular conditions, and surgical outcomes analysis. His work has been published in journals including Ophthalmology Retina, Retinal Physician, American Journal of Ophthalmology Case Reports, and Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina.
Board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Dinh is an active member of the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS), the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), and the Vit Buckle Society (VBS).
