“I am inspired by the opportunity to help others. It’s a wonderful feeling to know that by doing something I love, I can make a difference, contribute to the practice and serve our community.”
It is fitting that Dr. Vu’s college thesis examined the doctor-patient relationship. His close to 20 years of practice exemplify the caring and compassion that distinguishes truly extraordinary physicians. After receiving his undergraduate degree in the History and Philosophy of Science and Medicine from the University of Chicago, he earned his medical degree from The Penn State University School of Medicine before doing his Ophthalmology residency at the University of Virginia, where he served as Chief Resident. He went on to complete a Medical & Surgical Retina fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern and then joined Retina Associates, where he quickly earned the respect of his fellow professionals and admiration of his many patients while serving as the practice’s managing partner.
Having joined The Retina Group of Washington as a result of the RGW-RA merger, Dr. Vu’s well-rounded professional resume includes the publication of scientific papers and book chapters as well as presentations on macular and retinal disorders at numerous national and local meetings. As a hands-on participant in cutting-edge research, he has served as principal investigator for pivotal clinical trials on Macular Degeneration and Retinal Vein Occlusion while maintaining clinical interest in the treatment of those two diseases along with Diabetic Retinopathy, minimally invasive Retinal Vitreous surgery, Retina Detachment and Retinal Imaging.
Dr. Vu is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and licensed to practice in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. He is a Fellow and a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists (FASRS). He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Maryland Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and the Washington DC Metropolitan Ophthalmological Society (WDCMOS).
