Gregory Kramer, MD

Specialty Practice Area:
Comprehensive Ophthalmology, Cataract Surgery & Lens Implants, Glaucoma

Gregory Kramer, M.D. is a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist, Cataract Surgeon and Glaucoma Specialist at Hackensack Eye Care Center. Dr. Kramer received his medical degree from Stony Brook University School of Medicine and completed a residency in Ophthalmology at Nassau University Medical Center in New York. Following residency, Dr. Kramer completed a clinical glaucoma fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

Dr. Kramer specializes in routine as well as complex cataract surgery and the medical, laser and surgical management of glaucoma.  He has a special interest in laser cataract surgery and the use of advanced intraocular lens implants, including toric lens implants to correct astigmatism and trifocal/multifocal lenses such as the AcrySof® IQ PanOptix™ Multifocal Lens Implant (IOL), to help cataract surgery patients reduce their dependence on eyeglasses. As a glaucoma specialist, he utilizes the latest technologies currently available in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), as well as traditional glaucoma surgery to reduce eye pressure and preserve vision.

Dr. Kramer is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) and has authored 14 peer-reviewed publications in high impact ophthalmology journals. He has presented studies at national meetings, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), and is an active member of both societies.

Prior to his career as an Ophthalmologist, Dr. Kramer was a concert cellist. He studied at the Juilliard Pre-College and the Perlman Music Program and received a Bachelor of Music (Cello Performance) from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. Notable performance highlights include performances at Lincoln Center in the “Mostly Mozart” festival and Perlman Music Program concerts at Carnegie Hall. Dr. Kramer collaborated with Itzhak Perlman for a performance of Schumann’s piano quintet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and completed fellowships at the renowned Tanglewood Music Center, where he had the opportunity to perform in the Boston Symphony Orchestra.  He believes the manual dexterity he gained as a cellist to be excellent preparation for the precision required in ophthalmic surgery.

Outside of the office, Dr. Kramer enjoys spending time with his wife and family, traveling, hiking, playing cello, and going to concerts.
