Dr. H. Matthew Wheatley joined The Eye Care & Surgery Center in 2024. Dr. Wheatley graduated with high honors from Cook College at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ. He then received his MD from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore.

After an internship at Morristown Memorial Hospital, NJ, Dr. Wheatley completed his residency in ophthalmology at the UCLA-Jules Stein Institute. He completed his fellowship in vitreoretinal disease and surgery at the Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City, where he was awarded a Heed Ophthalmic Fellowship and an ARVO-National Eye Institute Travel Grant.

Dr. Wheatley is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine. He is on the medical staff of Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Dr. Wheatley has served on the Board of Governors of the New Jersey Academy of Ophthalmology and is a past president of the New Jersey Retina Society.

Dr. Wheatley has researched, published, and lectured at national meetings on numerous topics in ophthalmology, including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, intraocular injections, intraocular lens fixation techniques, retinal detachment, AIDS-related eye disease, macular hole, macular pucker and myopic degeneration. He has been a Principal Investigator in the nationwide Vitrase for Vitreous Hemorrhage Study.

When he is not working, Dr. Wheatley enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters.
